8) Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Yet another great Fire Emblem game (and the only one to be released on the GameCube), this is a must for Fire Emblem fans. Path of Radiance also received a sequel (available on the Wii), Radiant Dawn. Added bonus for Smash Bros fans, you’ll get tons of time with protagonist Ike. And if you still haven’t enjoyed a Fire Emblem game, be sure to download Fire Emblem Heroes for your iPhone and find out what the rest of us already know!
7) Metroid Prime 1 & 2
With the GameCube, Nintendo handed the reigns of the Metroid franchise to Texas developer Retro Studios. They turned the traditional side-scroller into a first-person adventure much to everyone’s surprise – and delight! The GameCube ended up being home to two Metroid Prime games (with the third sequel appearing on the Wii). The entire trilogy was re-released on the Wii and Wii U. If Nintendo can give us the whole trilogy on the Switch, awesome – if not, hopefully they’ll at least give us Metroid Prime 1 & 2 on the GameCube Virtual Console!
6) Geist
Geist had a brilliant game concept, and to be honest, I’m a bit surprised we haven’t seen a sequel or remake. In Geist, you’re a spirit, and the only way to interact with anything is to “possess” people and objects. If you need to do some shooting, you could possess a soldier. If you need to frighten someone, you could possess a nearby object. Progressing through the levels required some puzzle solving utilizing the possession abilities, and it was definitely a refreshing change from most first person shooters (and considering the plethora of shooters nowadays, we could probably use a new “Geist” style game!).
5) Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
A stellar role-playing game featuring Paper Mario and a cast of characters both new and old. Like all the Paper Mario games, it featured some great dialog and amazing “paper” inspired visuals. Another great Mario adventure to save Princess Peach. And if Nintendo is smart, they’ll re-release the other Paper Mario games on the Switch, including the newest adventure Paper Mario: Color Splash.
