Grand Theft Auto 6 Devs Confirm the Game Is in the Works
Grand Theft Auto 6 is officially coming soon. Rockstar Games has just confirmed that the new entry in the highly popular GTA series is already in development.
“We are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway,” Rockstar wrote. “With the unprecedented longevity of GTA 5, we known many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series.”
“We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready,” they added. “So, please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details.”
Multiple sources have reported that Grand Theft Auto 6 has been in the works since 2020. According to these reports, the game could be launching in either 2024 or 2025. Unfortunately, devs have not revealed anything else about the game as of the moment.
Grand Theft Auto 6 fans think that the initial version of the game could be much smaller than the franchise’s fifth installment. Updates will reportedly build on it over time. Some members of the GTA community have speculated that the upcoming sixth installment will return to a Miami-inspired Vice City setting. Devs may have even hinted at this setting by providing a first screenshot into the GTA Trilogy remasters.
It is also worth noting that the next game may not even have the official name of Grand Theft Auto 6. After all, Rockstar did not provide a full formal title for it. However, considering how the devs named the first five mainline games, it is highly likely they will continue with the pattern.
It remains unclear how the tone of the new game will compare to the previous entries in the series. Rockstar Co-Founder Dan Houser was the primary creative force in the franchise. This was before he decided to leave the studio in 2020.
