All’s Fair In Love & War…
We’ve been getting plenty of info about DICE’s upcoming futuristic FPS Battlefield 2042 in the run-up to its release in October this year – character spotlights, gameplay demonstrations and briefings on the various game modes on offer have all steadily been building hype over the last few months. Folks are so excited for Battlefield 2042’s release that DICE have had to increase the server capacity for their previous title Battlefield 4, as players are diving back into the game in anticipation. However, it’s not just those good, honest players that are preparing for Battlefield 2042 – it seems that the usual suspects are already getting set to cheat their way to the top.
Cheating has pretty much always been an issue with online gaming – more recently, the Call of Duty franchise’s journey into the battle royale genre, Warzone, has seen tens of thousands of players banned and strict anti-cheat measures being worked on as the game has been constantly under fire from hackers and cheaters. Now, an infamous cheat provider who’s already made their mark on Warzone, Black Ops: Cold War and Apex: Legends have outlined the cheats they plan to make available.
The cheat site in question, IWantCheats, is offering cheats for the upcoming open beta of Battlefield 2042, including aimbots and ESP. The site claims to have over 1.2 million registered users, with none of them having been detected and banned from a Battlefield game yet. Of course, it’s probably best to take this with a grain of salt – they are after your money, after all – but it is a little worrying that hackers are getting ready to ruin things for regular gamers this early on in the game’s life.
Hopefully, DICE will take decisive action when it comes to hackers in Battlefield 2042 – there’s already plenty of precedent for creative ways of dealing with them, from targeting the sellers directly to putting out bounties on flaws in anti-cheat software. Here’s hoping that when Battlefield 2042 releases, it escapes Warzone’s rampant cheating.
Battlefield 2042 is set to release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC on October 22.
