Rockstar Remasters Won’t Simply Be Ports of Older Titles

Rockstar Isn’t Interested in Ports of Older Titles

During the recent Morgan Stanley Technology Media & Telecom Conference, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick discussed future remasters from Rockstar Games. The company plans to continue doing proper remasters in the future rather than simple ports of older titles similar to the recent Mafia remaster as opposed to something like Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. Mafia: Definitive Edition is available now for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick was quick to remind gamers during the Technology Media & Telecom Conference that Grand Theft Auto V is entering its third generation of consoles with the upcoming remaster coming to Xbox Series X and PS5. Just like other Rockstar Games that are remastered for newer platforms, this means improved technology and visuals, performance enhancements, load improvements, etc.

“I’m not sure there’ll be a bigger part of the strategy,” said Strauss Zelnick. “Remastering has always been a part of the strategy. We’ve done differently than the competition – we don’t just port titles over, we actually take the time to do the very best job we can making the title different for the new release, for the new technology that we’re launching it on.” Zelnick also went on to discuss how GTA V hasn’t remained relevant just by porting the title, with each new version bringing something new to the table and keeping it in the limelight.

During the conference, Strauss Zelnick also confirmed that Rockstar Games has nothing to share at this time in regards to Grand Theft Auto 6. Are you looking forward to more remasters from Rockstar Games? Let us know in the comments below!
