Splatoon 3 Confirmed at the Tail End of Nintendo Direct

Splatoon 3 Confirmed for 2022 Release

During the recent Nintendo Direct, Nintendo saved its biggest announcement for the last minute, announcing Splatoon 3 at the tail end of the presentation. The gameplay resembles Splatoon 2, though it looks far more refined and a lot bigger, especially the city that was teased in comparison to the hub city of Splatoon 2. Splatoon 2 is available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch right now, while Splatoon 3 is expected to release in 2022.

The introduction to Splatoon 3 showed an Inkling chilling in a desert with their bird companion, both offering customization options right off the bat. The introductory area takes place in a desert which shows off the increased scale of the new sequel with what looks like an upturned Eiffel Tower in the background.  The Inkling soon gets on a train to visit a very dense and lively city that dwarfs Inkopolis from Splatoon 2 at first glance.

One Splatoon 3 map was teased at the very end of the trailer, showing off a junkyard-style map in the center of a dessert. This not only gave Splatoon fans an idea of what kind of maps to look forward to with this sequel, but it also revealed a decent chunk of the arsenal that they will compete with. Splatoon 2 had several free weekends since it released, bringing in tons of new fans that may end up purchasing the new sequel when it releases next year.
