New Lord of the Rings MMO Will Receive an Open Beta
While we’ve had our hands on Lord of the Rings Online for several years now, a new Lord of the Rings MMO is in development and an open beta is currently being planned for early 2023. The developers, Athlon Games, have been moving around a lot from Amazon Game Studios to Tencent, and due to these acquisitions, some new information about the Lord of the Rings MMO was revealed. The Lord of the Rings MMO is only expected to release on PC when it eventually rolls out in 2023.
Some of the info released about Athlon Games’ Lord of the Rings MMO was found on a ‘Game License Amendment’ from June 5th, 2019. This data entry included a detailed production schedule that included development expectations and an idea of when everything will roll out. For example, the production schedule includes an expected “first pass art on races and classes” date of June 8th, 2020. While this has come and gone, the draft of a completed game lore and narrative is the next step which is expected on January 11th, 2021.
The upcoming Lord of the Rings MMO will apparently have a playable prototype on June 1st, 2021 as a deadline for Saul Zaentz Company. The Lord of the Rings MMO is expected to receive a closed beta on September 30th, 2022, while an open beta isn’t coming until January 1st, 2023. When dates such as December 31st or January 1st are used in production schedules, release schedules, etc. it’s usually a placeholder date, but Lord of the Rings fans can at least expect a beta for the upcoming MMO in 2023.
