Capcom Has Sold Over 100 Million Resident Evil Games
Capcom has recently updated their sales data as part of their fiscal financial briefing and it includes impressive Resident Evil sales data. According to the sales data, the Resident Evil franchise has exceeded 98 million units sold as of March 31st, 2020. Considering this sales data doesn’t include the likes of Resident Evil 3 Remake, this means the franchise has sold over 100 million units worldwide. The company has yet to make a celebratory announcement regarding this sales milestone and they’re likely at work on the next Resident Evil title, whether it’s the rumored Resident Evil 4 Remake or Resident Evil 8. Resident Evil 3 Remake is available for Xbox One, PS4 and PC now, with the Resistance multiplayer mode increasing its replayability.
Resident Evil has been a staple for the survival horror genre since it began in 1996 and it has officially become the first Capcom franchise to reach 100 million units sold. The Monster Hunter series is the closest to reach the sales milestone, with 63 million units sold worldwide as of now. While the Resident Evil franchise has always been a popular Capcom lineup, the recent Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes have introduced new fans to two of the classic installments and Resident Evil 8 was able to reinvigorate the franchise when it released in 2017.
Having now sold over 100 million units of Resident Evil titles worldwide, it’ll be interesting to see where Capcom takes the franchise next. Rumors regarding the next title have been circulating since Resident Evil 3 Remake released, with some suggesting a Resident Evil 4 Remake and others claiming Resident Evil 8 is on the horizon.
