The Ascent Is a Next-Gen Top-Down RPG
Neon Giant was among the many developers on the recent Inside Xbox Series X games showcase to reveal their next-gen title, The Ascent. The Ascent is a top-down cyberpunk-themed action RPG that centers around a group of city saving heroes known as The Ascent Group. Apparently something happens to the cyberpunk world to plunge it into chaos because by the point gamers take control of the group, they have to fight their way through mobs to restore order. The Ascent will release later this year for Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC and it will offer Smart Delivery between the current and next-gen consoles.
Developer Neon Giant and publisher Curve Digital have come together to create the beautifully cyberpunk world of The Ascent using Unreal Engine 4. Gamers can play through the story of The Ascent solo or cooperatively with friends, with the ability to create their own character and customize gears, weapons and more. The Smart Delivery feature will allow fans of the title on the Xbox One to easily upgrade to the Series X version when they upgrade their consoles. The environments of The Ascent are impressive from the cinematics to the gameplay and we’re looking forward to exploring the corporate-run metropolis.
The gameplay felt like a tactical version of Diablo 3, with the cinematic visuals rivaling the Blizzard ARPG as well. The cyberpunk world includes various races of aliens and we’re looking forward to seeing all of the creative enemies and allies that are included in the campaign. While The Ascent may end up on the Game Pass subscription service, it doesn’t seem like it will be ended up on the service day one as the reveal trailer didn’t include reference to how it will be released later this year.
