Famitsu Sales Chart Puts Final Fantasy 7 Remake Over 700,000 Sales
According to the Famitsu sales charts from this week, Final Fantasy 7 Remake has sold over 700,000 units in Japan, topping the sales chart this week. While the latest Final Fantasy titles is a PlayStation exclusive, Resident Evil 3 Remake for the PS4 rounds out the top three and it’s featured across multiple platforms, showing Sony’s dominance in the Japanese console market. Animal Crossing: New Horizons followed Final Fantasy 7 Remake in sales with less than half of the sales at 292,876. Final Fantasy 7 Remake is available exclusively for the PS4 now and it drastically changes the formula of a classic RPG.
While Final Fantasy 7 Remake tops this week’s Famitsu sales charts, it’s notable that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe remains in the top five in sales, with 107,535 sold this week. One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 rounds out the rest of the top five this week, continuing to sell well in the Shonen Jump region. The following are Famitsu’s weekly numbers for software:
- Final Fantasy 7 Remake PS4 – 702,853
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch – 292,876
- Resident Evil 3 Remake PS4 – 34,698
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 13,204
- One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 PS4 – 13,204
- One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 Switch – 11,921
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 11,303
- Ring Fit Adventure – 9,249

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has officially surpassed 3.3 million sales in Japan alone, showing how popular the franchise continues after breaking New Leaf’s record as fastest Animal Crossing game to surpass 2 million. It’s impressive to see each of the latest Resident Evil remakes selling so well and are anticipating the announcement of the next remake. We’re surprised to see two out of the three games in the top three being remakes, proving the lasting potential of updating old games with modern visuals and sound quality.
