Mama, How Could You?
A little while ago, a trailer for Cooking Mama: Cookstar was leaked and its release was rumored to take place in March. That rumor turned out to be kind of true. Not so long ago, Cookstar was on the Nintendo eShop, but has been removed for mysterious reasons. Some players have got their hands on it and have uploaded screenshots of gameplay and UI, and nothing distressing has been revealed by them, but still the game disappeared from the eShops. However, there are still third party distributors where the game can be found physically.
Perhaps out of frustration, someone has been spreading dirty rumors about Mama. This rumor suggests that the Cooking Mama: Cookstar was mining for cryptocurrency in the Nintendo Switch. While if any Nintendo character would be at the center of a conspiracy theory, it would be Cooking Mama, this claim is pretty bogus. The Nintendo Switch’s GPU is not fast enough to mine cryptocurrency like a PC would be able. Developer 1st Playable also commented that “there is no cryptocurrency or data collection or block and chain or anything else shady in the code.”
As the developers we can say with certainty there is no cryptocurrency or data collection or blockchain or anything else shady in the code. The Nintendo Switch is a very safe platform, with none of the data and privacy issues associated with some mobile and PC games.

While that is certainly nice to hear, it still does not explain why the game was pulled from the eShop. On that subject, 1st Playable and publisher Planet Digital have been silent. Apparently, “what Mama doesn’t know won’t hurt her.” Still, fans would like an answer. Cooking Mama: Cookstar is available on the Nintendo Switch. Sort of.
