Retailers Have Gotten SKU Placeholders Teasing a Nintendo Direct
Often times, a Nintendo Direct is predicted through various retailers getting SKU placeholders just barely ahead of time so that they’re ready to collect pre-orders on freshly announced titles. While the placeholders don’t carry official release dates, Amazon and GameStop have accumulated several new listings for Nintendo Switch games according to Twitter user @YuYuKami who spotted the new SKU listings at GameStop. Overall, twelve new unnamed Nintendo Switch games have been listed with placeholder SKU’s but as to what these titles are, it’s anyone’s guess. Nintendo hasn’t announced a Direct for 2020 but with these listings, we could see one very soon.
One of the titles previously leaked by a SKU is Overwatch’s Nintendo Switch port and the title was announced within a month of the SKU leak so gamers can expect to wait as long as a month for the next Nintendo Direct. With twelve listings being confirmed, it appears that Nintendo wants to kick off the new year with a bang. Except for the year 2016, Nintendo has held a major Direct every January or February since 2013 so one will apparently fall within the first two months of 2020.
The last big Nintendo Direct that had major announcements was in September, which featured Overwatch, Trials of Mana, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and the upcoming Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Considering Nintendo’s fairly barren 2020 release schedule beyond March, we expect to see up to twelve new titles with release windows this year. All of the placeholder SKU’s had release dates of December. 31st, 2019 but since that day has come and gone, they’ll need to be updated soon and we hope a Nintendo Direct helps with giving them proper release dates.
