Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai Was Revealed at Jump Festa

During the recent Jump Festa event in Japan, Square Enix announced an upcoming Dragon Quest title based on a manga known as Fly or Dragon Quest: The Adventures of Dai. Dragon Quest XI Producer Ryutaro Ichimura will be overseeing the development of Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai with a new Dragon Quest anime releasing in Fall 2020. Yuji Horii, the creator of Dragon Quest has hinted the game will launch on home consoles but there’s no word on a PC release. The game will likely compliment the new anime with a 2020 release but Dragon Quest fans will be able to enjoy the original Dragon Quest Dai no Daibouken manga which will be republished every week for free on the Shonen Jump + app.

Dragon Quest Adventure Dai

Dragon Quest Dai no Daibouken has been a mange since the 90’s and the series will finally get some gaming attention with the upcoming Dragon Quest: The Adventures of Dai. The upcoming anime of the same series will be produced by Toei Animation in Fall 2020, leaving gamers with very little time to wait. The teaser trailer for both the anime and game adaptation were both published by Toei Animation which shows the versatility of the company. The Dai no Daibouken series of Dragon Quest titles was written by Riku Sanjo and illustrated by Koji Inadaand. The series was published in the weekly Shonen Jump magazine and it’s one of the magazine’s biggest successes, with over 47 million copies sold.

While an anime of Dragon Quest Dai no Daibouken was already produced nineties and it aired in countries in Europe and Latin America under the name Fly, this new series will tell a similar story in an updated format. Rather than Dragon Quest XII, Dragon Quest; The Adventure of Dai game is probably the rumored “Dragon Quest HD game” Square Enix was recruiting for.on their job listings.
