First Look at Zachary Levi as Shazam!

SHAZAM!

Zachary Levi has posted a photo of himself showing off the first new Shazam! poster on his official personal instagram.

The reveal comes ten days after shooting in Toronto, Ontario officially wrapped, and a month after director David F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation) showed off behind the scenes footage at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. The costume design seems to take inspiration from the Justice League: Origin comic book storyline, as well as some of Alex Ross’ takes on the character.

We’ve yet to get a look at the rest of the cast, which includes newcomer Asher Angel as Billy Batson, a young foster child bestowed with the powers of Shazam after a run in with an ancient wizard, played by This Is Us star Ron Cephas Jones. The film’s villain, Dr. Thaddeus Sivana will be played by Kingsman and Brothers Grimsby actor Mark Strong.

The films script was written by Henry Gayden, screenwriter of Earth to Echo, and Darren Lemke, who wrote the screenplay for Shrek Forever After, and Turbo. Interestingly, one of the films producers is none other than Dwayne Johnson, who was set to play Black Adam in Shazam! before departing to work on the character’s solo film.

Also noteworthy, Shazam’s original name was Captain Marvel. Those who’ve been keeping up with the MCU know that Carol Danvers is going to be joining the series soon, who is Marvel’s own Captain Marvel, which will be the title of her solo film. Captain Marvel hits theaters May 3, 2019. Shazam is set to release April 5, 2019. Essentially, there’ll be two Captain Marvel films in theaters at the same time.
