CD Projekt’s Q2 Results Reveal They’re Now Worth Over $1 Billion

Polish Studio CD Projekt’s Hard Work Clearly Pays Off

In a somewhat surprising bit of news, CD Projekt has revealed that since posting their Q2 results off the highly successful conclusion to the Witcher series. The results show that they have smashed the initial predictions made by analysts by a whopping 32%. Naturally, their share price has skyrocketed as well, and the company is now worth over $1 billion. Their revenue in the second quarter of 2016 showed they had generated a healthy revenue of 319 Million PLN which equates to roughly $82 million. Their total profit for the quarter was $34.7 million, or roughly 134.7 million PLN. Geralt wishes he had that kind of cash.

They don’t have any plans on slowing down, either. CD Projekt announced that their goal for 2016-2019 is going to be to generate a net profit of 618.4 million PLN, with the grand total by 2021 to be having made 1.09 billion PLN in profit. Since the beginning of the year, their share price alone has jumped about 67% as well, and it’s so reassuring to see a company that works as hard as these folks reap the rewards. CD Projekt has shown they know how to make a game, and we were really, really, really fond of the Witcher 3 and the DLC that came with it. The sheer scale of the game itself is intimidating, but Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine both stood out strongly enough to feel like full fledged adventures in the series, standing on their own with no issues.

The success can’t just be attributed to Geralt’s latest though, as their DRM-free service GOG has done them a fair number of favours as well, which we’ve tidied up into a nice little summary for you below:

  • GOG Galaxy is doing major work for CDPR, with it having sold more add-ons for The Witcher 3 than the main game sold.
  • Galaxy will continue to grow, with planned online features for upcoming titles such as Gwent, which will be making use of Cross Play support..
  • CDPR wants to prepare Gwent for the E-Sports market, and will be pushing for it to have a solid presence along the likes of Hearthstone.
  • The team behind Gwent is about 100 people, including the whole marketing team for CD Projekt.
  • No plans for mobile Gwent at this stage, although CD Projekt won’t rule out a mobile release.
  • Gwent’s release is to be expected a few months after the closed beta concludes.
  • CD Projekt currently has 104 job openings on their website, along with the exisiting staff. The company is growing at an insane pace.

Suffice to say, when a studio puts in the effort that CD Projekt has towards growing their studio, it’s so refreshing to see it pay off like this. The entire Witcher series kicked major ass, but there are many eyes on their next big offering, Cyberpunk 2077, which CD Projekt aims to make as big as, if not bigger than the Witcher ended up being. If you’re a fan of hard data, you can read the full results of their posting right here, which has all the juicy details.

How do you like that silver, CD Projekt?
