Injustice 2 Guest Characters Will Almost Certainly Happen
Netherrealm loves its cameos. Guest characters have been a staple of its fighting games for the past few years now. From Mortal Kombat in 2011, to Mortal Kombat X and Injustice: Gods Among Us, each game has seen a number of special guests.
Mortal Kombat saw Kratos and Freddy Krueger enter the fray, Injustice featured a cross-over from MK with Scorpion, and Mortal Kombat X turned it up to 11 with four solid characters coming over; Leatherface, Predator, Jason Voorhees, and the Xenomorph from Alien. To think that Netherrealm would buck the trend now seems almost foolish. In a recent conversation with Game Informer, Ed Boon stated that he “would be surprised if we didn’t do any of that”.
Of course he didn’t let loose even the slightest hint at who any guest spots would go to. He did however, go into a little bit of detail on how some of these guest spots come to fruition, whether they’re based on fan suggestions, feedback or just the simple availability of the character.
Probably the biggest one is simply someone suggests someone. With Mortal Kombat, we stepped outside of the universe with characters like Freddy Krueger, Jason, Alien, Predator, and stuff like that, so the movie stuff kind of mixes things up. Fan feedback is another big one; just hearing some very loud, insistent people saying what they want. And what’s available; obviously we can’t just choose what we want to do, like ‘we want Robocop so he’s in the game!’ You have to do something that can be accommodated as far the company. So there are a number of variables, including what the players have been asking for. We’re always listening to feedback.”
