Game of the Year 2017 Awards – Best Action Game

COGconnected’s Best of 2017 Awards – Best Action Game

Sometimes drifting through a turn, solving a puzzle, or building a farm simply isn’t enough to get that adrenaline pumping. Action games are a definitive staple of video games, giving us intense, high octane battles and challenges to overcome in a way that is extremely satisfying. Video games as a whole have recently seen a rise in making games more accessible to people of all ages as digital entertainment becomes and more and more prevalent. That means developers are finding ways to create powerful action experiences without needing complex mastery or expertise to enjoy. While there will always be difficult games like Cuphead or Dark Souls, the action genre is more welcoming than ever to players of all skill types.

Gravity Rush 2 Top Screen

2017 has given us memorable action games with new and unique gameplay elements that make them more than simple beat em’ up or hack and slash titles. Gravity Rush 2 takes the mind-bending gravity manipulation of the first game and amps it up with all new mechanics. Super Mario Odyssey has proven itself to be by far the greatest game in the franchise with constant and incredible action. Horizon Zero Dawn is intense, fast, methodical, and epic with every massive encounter, and Nioh stands tall as more than a simple Dark Souls clone, but rather a rich and challenging experience in Japanese lore. These games and more have all made an impact in the action genre, so check out our video below to see who we named the Best Action Game of 2017.
