LucidSound LS25 eSports Headset Review
If you’ve thought about purchasing a gaming headset, the toughest question inevitably becomes, how serious do want to get? You don’t want to spend a fortune, but you also don’t want to end up with a cheap piece of junk that you’ll be unsatisfied with. If that’s the case, the LucidSound LS25 eSports gaming headset just might be the choice for you — it’s a well-built, sturdy headset with a nice set of features, but it comes at a price that won’t break the bank.
First impressions are very positive for the LS25. It is made of quality, durable materials including stitched leatherette ear pads and a metal frame, and its red and black design is very attractive, albeit a bit conspicuous if you wish to use it outside your home in a public place. Overall the LS25 has the look and feel of a headset that’s much more expensive than it is, and it definitely feels like a step up from the entry level bargain units even though it’s not much more in terms of price.
Solid Sound and Nice Features
The LS25 promises high-quality sound through its pair of 50mm speakers, and their large size and thick cushioned ear cups do their part by delivering effective noise cancellation. When wearing the headset, I found that extraneous ambient noise was blocked out quite well, allowing for a high level of immersion during gaming. The speakers were clear and powerful, although less so at lower volumes than when I turned the unit up to a fairly high level. I wouldn’t say the LS25 is an industry leader in terms of sound quality — especially when put up against the expensive units — but it is outstanding compared to other headsets in its price range.
I am not a serious eSports competitor, but I could still appreciate many of the LucidSound LS25 eSports headset’s innovations. The detachable boom mic is one such feature, as it is fully directionally adjustable and comes with a wind guard that I found did a great job of eliminating background noise (like my bad habit of mouth-breathing). Sound volume is easily adjusted via a large wheel on the side of the left ear cup and a Mute button resides smartly on the right ear cup — both excellent ideas that are a vast improvement over the usual tiny and hard-to-find dials or buttons I’ve seen on other units. Whether it be for hectic eSports competition or just everyday gaming, the LucidSound LS25 eSports headset makes for a smooth experience with convenient and intuitive features.
Flexibility is another strong suit for the LS25. You can detach the mic for travelling or just use the second built-in mic if you so choose. The headset comes with two connecting cords — one a normal headphone jack and another with two connections in case your PC requires them. It is also compatible with all the platforms — PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC, mobile and even the PSVR (although that might be a lot of equipment to wear it in addition to the PSVR’s headset). It isn’t wireless, and that is a shame — but remember that LucidSound’s wireless version, the LS35X, is another $100.00 more expensive.
Comfort is Key
For me, comfort level is a major consideration with gaming headsets, especially when using them for long periods. In this regard, the LucidSound LS25 eSports headset is not bad. Despite its massive size and partly-metal frame, it is surprisingly light when worn, and I did not find it to be uncomfortable even after a long time. The ear cups are well cushioned, as already mentioned, but the inevitable ear soreness does set in after a few hours. I would say that overall the LS25 has a decent comfort level that is comparable to other headsets I’ve used.
Is the LucidSound LS25 eSports headset the best set of gaming headphones you can buy? No. But it is one of the best units you can buy for its price range. At the time of this writing, the LS25 was selling at just $44.48 on Amazon, and that makes it an amazing value for those who want a decent gaming headset but don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars. Whether you’re a serious eSports warrior or just a regular old grinder like me, this is a headset you’ll be happy with.
