COGconnected GOTY Awards – Video Game of the Year

10. Gran Turismo 7

Gran Turismo 7 is a return to glory for the former near-perfect racing sim franchise. It turns out that the key was creating a racing sim that was a tiny bit more arcade and fun. It’s still definitely a sim, but much more accessible than other major players in the genre. The physics and visuals are second to none.

9. Cult of the Lamb

COGconnected voted a cult simulator ahead of the year’s best racing simulator. Obviously they’re very different games. While Gran Turismo 7 is a perfection of familiar ideas, Cult of the Lamb is a batch of fresh ideas. It’s a very fun gameplay loop, with an interesting an hilarious theme.

8. Sifu

Sifu is all about mastering intense, difficult combat. It has an excellent cinematic revenge narrative. But the gameplay drives itself. Sifu does a great job of making the player feel great about mastering its combat. It’s a martial arts film fan’s dream game.

7. Tunic

Tunic is an isometric adventure game that takes many of its ideas from The Legend of Zelda and Souls series. Its most interesting aspect is that everything is presented in cryptic and disguised ways. It’s a great feeling to discover a new ability that you’ve had for hours, but didn’t know how to use.

6. A Plague Tale: Requiem

A Plague Tale: Requiem is the sequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence. It’s the type of game designed to do well in GOTY polls. It’s a cinematic, narrative driven third person adventure game, with stealth and puzzle mechanics. Its graphics and music are gorgeous. It’s a little straightforward, and plays things a little safe, but those are our only critiques.
