Top 5 Gamescom Opening Night Live Announcements

Early Christmas For Gamers!

Hosted by Geoff Keighley, Gamescom’s Opening Night Live was unexpectedly action-packed and over delivered on the big announcements we were expecting. The 2-hour show had announced loads of new games and had loads of updates for already announced titles. This is our list of the biggest 5 announcements that may have taken us by surprise during the event, or are just too big not to be excited for.

Saints Row Reboot

We all knew this one was coming given all the buzz online, but it nonetheless still took our breath away. The Saints Row’s latest entry to date was back in 2013, after almost 10 years of absence, Saints Row is back!

Saints Row will take place in Santo Lleso, you will be a part of a brand new gang that you will help build from the ground up. The city will feature various unique gangs that will come in your way, and so it will be your responsibility to make them “go away”.

Saints Row has been announced to come as early as February 25, 2022, and will be releasing on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Halo Infinite’s Release Date

Halo fans were a bit upset with Xbox’s Gamescom Showcase for the absence of Halo Infinite and discouraged by the lack of a release date. Turns out Xbox has just been holding back to make a surprise announcement during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live.

Halo Infinite is now announced to release this December 8th, 2020. Alongside the release date, 343 showed off the Multiplayer’s Season 1 opening cutscene. Detailing that the multiplayer will have its own story, and will grow every season as time goes by.

343 has also announced a brand new Halo-themed Xbox Series X console to be released November 15th, as well as a Halo-themed Elite Series 2 Xbox controller.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns

XCOM’s creators Firaxis has announced today their newest surprise title “Marvel’s Midnight Suns”. Players will be taking the role of The Hunter, an all-new character, both combat and appearance will be highly customizable with over 40 superpowers available.

The game will also feature 13 allied heroes from both the X-Men and the Avengers. Confirmed characters will include Iron Man, Captain America, Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider, Wolverine, and more. Teams will be made of 4 players in turn-based missions and players will be grinding to level up and improve their skills.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns will have a Gameplay reveal coming this September 1st, and is releasing in March 2022.

Horizon Forbidden West Release Date

After the game has been hanging in the air after its latest delay from this year entirely, we finally have the release date of February 18, 2022, now it just has to stick.

PlayStation hasn’t had its usual State of Play summer event, and it skipped E3 altogether as expected. That left fans of the franchise in disarray, only for Sony to come to the rescue with the surprise announcement.

It’s worth mentioning that the announcement was very brief, and no more information regarding the game was revealed.

Horizon Forbidden West is coming to the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5 on February 18, 2022.

Far Cry 6 Story Trailer

Today we get a closer look at Far Cry 6’s Anton Castillo, and why it will be worth your time to potentially take him down.

Apparently, Yara has discovered the cure for cancer, and it’s produced in Yara’s tobacco corps. The only issue is, the people working in the tobacco fields are working against their will and are enslaved.

Anton Castillo is a leader that will stop at nothing to achieve his goals and will stop at nothing to stay in power. As shown in the trailer, his soldiers -for reasons yet to be known- are gunning down a boat full of innocent people. Not to mention the political unrest in the country, and how he handles those rebelling against him.

Far Cry 6 is coming this October 7th and will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

As you can see, the Gamescom Opening Night Live was as big as E3 2021, if not bigger. Both PlayStation and Xbox’s biggest titles made an appearance, and huge 3rd party titles were announced. It is hard to imagine if this kind of collaboration will ever be possible again, one thing is for sure, gamers now have a lot to look forward to!
