3) The Incredibles 2 (June 15)
Apparently Mr. Incredible is strong enough to go again! I don’t even need to spend a lot of time here. Pixar. The Incredibles. Sequel. I think I’ve made my point here. The only concern is that Pixar can’t quite capture the magic of the first one… but that concern is far in the back of my mind. Can’t wait for this one!
2) Ready Player One (March 30)
There’s nothing more nostalgic than a story set in the future that embodies all of the things that you grew up with. Admittedly, the majority of the nostalgic elements of RPO were before my time, but the seamless blend of futuristic sci-fi and old school pop culture shot RPO into the stratosphere. It was instantly accessible, whether you enjoy the sci-fi genre or ever played 80’s arcade games. With enough pop culture references to throw a book at (see what I did there), this one is going to be a game of ‘who has the sharper eye’, let alone a terrific film for the whole family. If you haven’t done so already, pick this one up and give it a read before the movie comes out. You’ll instantly see why Spielberg fell in love with it.
1) Avengers: Infinity War (May 4)
This should come as no surprise to anyone. The day that trailer dropped, Disney opened up a mint, solely to print the money that this movie is going to rake in. Three phases and 17 films are coming together to bring us the invasion of Thanos in Infinity War. While Phase 4 will help usher in the next Avengers film to close out this part of the MCU, the build up to this war with Thanos has been a long time coming. So much anticipation surrounds this film, the only real questions surrounding it are, A) who doesn’t make it out of this one, B) when does it come out, and C) how many times will I watch it. There can be no other movie in 2018 that has this level of hype and excitement behind it. I may have to take that whole weekend off, just to handle this.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (June 22)
Special shout out to the sequel to Jurassic World as Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard take on more dinosaurs. This gets a shout out not because I think it will be particularly good (I don’t), but because of the INSANE amount of cash it is going to make. You can’t put together an ‘Anticipation List’ and not include what is sure to be one of the biggest money makers of the year, even if I think it’s going to be a dud.
