8 of The Most Terrifying Video Games on the PlayStation 5

Returnal

The anxiety-filled Returnal will have you fleeing in horror due to the onslaught of butt-clenching encounters. Smothered with Lovecraftian imagery, the game is visually astounding. Tentacle-ridden enemies, dart around mystical arenas, creating tense, fear-inducing battles. With the looming threat of losing all your progress, the game will keep you on the edge of your seat in a continuous state of unease.

Mundaun

Brimming with personality, Mundaun stands out due to its incredible art style. Torn from the page and placed on the screen, the lovely sketch-based design helps to build a desolate atmosphere. Although the game takes a more subtle approach to the genre, there is an air of uncertainty that loiters within, making you aggressively more agitated throughout.

Doki Doki Literature Club Plus

At first glance, Doki Doki Literature Club Plus appears to be a typical visual novel, however, something sinister lies under the surface. Starting off as an innocent dating sim, you’ll create poems and do other cute, romantic gestures before falling down a dark path. Warped and twisted, the game will shake you to your very core, leaving you shocked and distressed.

Dead by daylight free dlc

Dead by Daylight

The horror genre is famed for its devilish antagonists. From Freddy Krueger to  Michael Myers, the list of iconic characters has become part of the witchy fabric of Halloween. Dead by Daylight incorporates a range of these symbols of horror in a frantic game of cat and mouse. The Asymmetric title places survivors in an environment with a raving lunatic. Work together to escape or try to get out on your own, either way, this game will get your pulse racing whether you’re chasing after victims or running for your life!

With The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes and Dying Light 2 releasing later this year, the horror genre is looking promising. However, until then, these games will dampen your pants this fall.
