The Three Best (and Worst) Games of August 2020

Worst

Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time

Samurai Jack is a cult classic, and Battle Through Time takes players through the finale of season 5, even extending beyond its conclusion. Unfortunately, nostalgia and extra content alone does not make a game successful. Despite some great sections and cutscenes, the game itself was unimaginative, featured dull combat, and failed to adapt the show’s charm. In our review, we noted that “Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time is a mediocre trip down memory lane.”

Peaky Blinders: Mastermind

Based on another, more contemporary piece of multimedia is Peaky Blinders: Mastermind. Peaky Blinders: Mastermind puts players in control of the Shelby family in a time-based, strategic game. While the source material is splendid, and the primary gameplay mechanic is unique, the game ultimately falls short as with most games based on a license these days. In our review, we found that “feelings of accomplishment are short-lived, though, when you realize just how underwhelming the rest of PBM (Peaky Blinders: Mastermind) truly is.“

PGA Tour 2K21

While EA’s PGA Tour might have sank after its 2015 release, 2K has taken over, molding its The Golf Club roots into PGA Tour 2K21. Although there was optimism for the new series, this first entry was not up to par. The game has game-breaking bugs, a lack of polish, and poor commentary to name a few. In our review, we found that “it’s unfortunate, then, that PGA Tour 2K21 will stand as nothing more than an homage to future potential. This game was never able to become the hole-in-one we wanted it to be.”
