The Worst

Animal Gods (PC)

Ok, when anything gets compared to the Legend of Zelda people tend to listen. Unfortunately when being compared to Legend of Zelda you know going in that it’s a lofty achievement to even come remotely close. Animal Gods uses some of the successful formula that made Zelda great but doesn’t improve upon it in any way. The story falls flat and the gameplay itself falls victim to a high level of repetitiveness. In a way it’s too bad because artistically, Animal Gods has a great look that really stands out from other indie games that have hit the PC lately. Clocking in at two to three hours at least you can power through it before the pain sets in to deep.

Gravity Falls: Legend of the Gnome Gemulets (3DS)

I’ll forgive you if you have no idea what this game is about but as a man with children I know all to well about Gravity Falls. A popular, and quite funny Disney Channel cartoon it has humor that will appeal to almost anyone in the home. Unfortunately this Metroidvania inspired 2D platformer is only geared toward the youngest of the young and even they might have a hard time staying interested. Visually the game more than stacks up and the writing keeps pace as well but the gameplay itself is not only short but entirely lacks variety so boredom will inevitably set in for players. Couple the gameplay fail with some less than stellar responsiveness in the controls department and you end up with a game more frustrating than fun.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 (Multi-platform)

Oh how far the might have fallen! Once an untouchable staple in any gamer’s library the mighty Tony Hawk franchise seems to have said its final goodbye with this sloppy, rushed and very likely ‘forced to make a game before the licensing expired’ game. A run of amazing games from the first Pro Skater to American Wasteland and Project 8, it was a respectable run of largely enjoyable games. Then came the board peripheral and Tony Hawk Ride and it was all downhill from there. The latest entry, Pro Skater 5 is an absolutely embarrassing piece of work that never should have left the Activision basement. It’s shame that the legacy of great games gets marred by a release like this one. Stay far away from this one, you’ve been warned.
