7. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
Ever heard of a little series called Castlevania? Maybe? Metroidvania games are among the most played genre these days with hundreds of indie companies looking to copy the formula. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is not only the spiritual successor to the iconic Castlevania series but heavily involved Koji Igarashi, the original Castlevania producer, to get the right feel for the game. One of the most funded games on Kickstarter to date, Bloodstained has been met with resounding success and it only seems to keep picking up steam.
8. The Blackout Club
Most first-person games see you looking down the barrel of a gun, but how about solving a spooky mystery? In The Blackout Club a small town is frequently experiencing mass blackouts and sleepwalking at night, however, no one knows it is happening. It’s up to the group of teens to discover what is happening to their town and convince them of the mysterious happenings. The Blackout Club was a quiet hit to come out and is a great way to spend those short summer nights with some delightful yet campy scary action.
9. RAD
A small game to pop up out of nowhere, Double Fine funded RAD through Kickstarter and the 80’s post-post-apocalyptic rogue-like is an absolute hit. It’s beautiful, it’s challenging, and it is dripping with fantastic 80’s nostalgia to say the least. This one can be played over and over again just to see all the wacky and weird mutations you can be subjected too.
