Chained Echoes is a gift to JRPG fans. It’s an homage to classic 2D titles from the Super Nintendo and PS1 eras. And it’s a near perfect modernizing of all the genre tropes non-genre fans complain about.
Romancing SaGa -Minstrel Song- Remastered is awesome in so many ways, but it’s annoying in a lot of ways too. There’s a steep learning curve at the beginning, and I can’t imagine it being enjoyed by anyone who’s not a JRPG veteran.
November is typically one of the most stacked months of the year. Amidst its many games, there were very few lemons. Our bottom scoring games still scored 60 or higher, so we’ve chosen to highlight a beloved game that needs an asterisk beside its rating. One of our top games scored incredibly high, and is a major contender for GOTY.
Christmas is coming, and that means there are a bunch of massive game releases in the coming weeks. Things slow down in the second half of the month, but those first two weeks are gonna be fire!
Harvestella isn’t trying to innovate anything. It’s a cozy throwback JRPG that stands apart by having a heavier emphasis on life sim elements. But it’s a story driven action JRG at its core, not a farming sim.
Tactics Ogre: Reborn is an insanely high-quality remaster. There are so many improvements, including gameplay additions, menu expansion, display clarity, improved graphics, orchestrated music, and fully-voiced dialogue. This remaster isn’t a cheap cash-in. It’s the quality level of remaster that all others should aspire to.
If the only console you own is a Switch, then Aeterna Noctis is a very good Metroidvania, but the Switch version is the worst available.
October was a very good month for quality video game releases, but it didn’t match the incredible output from September. All of the top releases heavily exceeded expectations, and performed above the most hyped games from October 2022.
Fall is hot, and November is the heart of it. The top game arriving in November 2022 is arguably the biggest release of the year. Maybe only behind Elden Ring. Some very old franchises have massive releases, but there’s a new IP to kick things off.
If you’ve played Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX, this is basically that game with an Ultraman theme. For Monster Rancher fans, this is more of what you love, with little innovation.
