Prepare to Explore a Dreamworld in Before I Go
Indie developer Jérôme Coppens has announced that his haunting action-platformer Before I Go will be making its way to consoles. The game is set to release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, expanding beyond its initial PC reveal.
The project was first introduced in 2024 with a planned Steam release, later followed by a demo during Steam Next Fest in June. With development steadily advancing, Coppens confirmed that the game is entering its beta phase soon.
Deeply inspired by Metroidvania classics such as Super Metroid, Guacamelee, and Axiom Verge, Before I Go pays tribute to the console titles that fueled Coppens’s passion for game development. Bringing the game to consoles, he explains, is a natural extension of his creative vision.
Set in a dreamlike and foreboding fantasy world, the game delivers a punishing metroidvania experience wrapped in allegory. Players take on the role of an inner child embarking on a symbolic journey toward accepting death. The end is certain, but the path to it is defined by courage and resilience.
The game’s key features highlight its unique artistic and emotional approach:
– A melancholic and evocative art style paired with unconventional storytelling rooted in personal tragedy.
– A sprawling non-linear world filled with mystery and surreal landscapes.
– Intense platforming challenges designed with precision and care.
– Unforgiving enemies, from parasitic abominations to otherworldly threats.
– A progression system built on acquiring powerful abilities and honing precise reflexes.
– Controls fine-tuned for responsiveness and mastery.
With its atmospheric design, emotional narrative, and relentless challenge, Before I Go is shaping up to be a striking entry in the metroidvania genre.
