KYC: K Stands for Killing Turns a Gas Station Job Into a Nightmare

Unveil a Terrifying Secret in KYC: K Stands for Killing

Horror games often put players on the run from terrifying creatures, but KYC: K Stands for Killing takes a different approach by putting them behind the counter instead. Developer Monastic Hill Studios has announced the reverse horror game for PC, with a free demo available now through Steam Next Fest.

The game takes place at Mehtos 247, a gas station on a deserted highway outside Highwater, Colorado. Players step into the shoes of Suneil Shrivastava, an international student who loses his scholarship and finds himself stuck in a job he cannot afford to leave. Without graduating, he faces deportation. Unfortunately, the gas station hides something far more disturbing behind its locked backroom door, and it needs to be fed.

Rather than simply escaping danger, players must decide which customers get to leave and which ones become victims. The horror comes from how an ordinary shift can gradually make these disturbing decisions feel like just another part of the job.

KYC also leans heavily into realism. Players must handle everyday gas station duties, including operating the point-of-sale system, counting cash, managing fuel pumps, restocking shelves, and cleaning. Conversations matter, too, as how players treat customers early in the night can determine who offers help later.

The customers aren’t just disposable characters, either. Each has a name, personality, and routine, making every encounter potentially meaningful as the story unfolds.

Interestingly, KYC is adapted scene by scene from its creator’s horror novel, bringing the original story into an interactive format where players are responsible for their choices.

With its unsettling premise and emphasis on moral decisions, KYC: K Stands for Killing offers a disturbing twist on the usual horror formula. Its free demo is available now for anyone curious enough to step behind the counter.
