Far Cry Franchise Welcomes the New IP Director at Ubisoft

The Writer of Far Cry 5 Drew Holmes Promoted

Ubisoft has appointed Drew Holmes, a veteran writer, and narrative designer, to lead the Far Cry intellectual property. He previously held the role of narrative lead for the franchise.

Holmes took to his LinkedIn page to announce the good news. He wrote, “It’s been an exciting few months… I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as IP Director of Far Cry at Ubisoft! We have big things in store 🙂 Don’t hesitate to reach out if you want to be a part of the next evolution of this great brand!”

At Ubisoft, he played a crucial role as the story lead for both 2019’s Far Cry: New Dawn and 2018’s Far Cry 5. Prior to his work on the series, he held the position of lead writer at Irrational Games for BioShock Infinite. He also contributed to the development of the initial three installments of the Saints Row franchise while he worked at Volition.

As reported by the press earlier this year, Ubisoft is presently in the process of developing Far Cry 7 alongside a distinct competitive multiplayer game of the series.

Reports suggest that the new game in production is utilizing Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine. This marks a departure from the Dunia engine that the series has used in recent entries. Additionally, the ongoing development of the multiplayer game centers around an extraction-based shooter scenario within the Alaskan wilderness. Both games potentially aim for a launch in the autumn of 2025.

The previous title Far Cry 6 which came out in 2021 had an online co-op campaign but it lacked competitive multiplayer options.

You might ask, ” What happened to the previous director?”. Well, Dan Hay left Ubisoft in 2021 and is now leading Blizzard’s new survival game. All we can do now is wait and see what the future holds for both of them.
