Cyberpunk 2077 Sales Exceed 13 Million

Returns Didn’t Hinder Cyberpunk 2077 Sales

CD Projekt RED has officially confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 sales exceeded 13 million units despite the controversy the game stirred up. Even after returns were taken into account, Cyberpunk 2077 still sold exceedingly well, and will likely continue to sell going into the new year with game-fixing patches coming in January and February. Cyberpunk 2077 is available right now for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Google Stadia, and PC.

“Based on reports obtained from digital distribution platforms and data collected from physical distributors, it estimates that by December 20th inclusive gamers have purchased over 13 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077,” said a recent report from CD Projekt RED. “This figure represents the estimated volume of retail sales across all hardware platforms (factoring in returns submitted by retail clients in brick-and-mortar as well as digital storefronts), aka the ‘sell-through’ figure, less all refund requests e-mailed directly to the Company by the publication date of this report in the framework of the “Help Me Refund” campaign.” While CDPR officially apologized over the botched release of Cyberpunk 2077, the team is likely pleased by the successful sales week for the game.

While some of the developers at CD Projekt RED spoke out against the botched release of Cyberpunk 2077, it didn’t take long for the game to become profitable and according to these recent reports, it looks like it kept selling beyond profitability. PlayStation and Xbox have both been offering refunds to gamers who feel slighted by the release of Cyberpunk 2077 not living up to their expectations, and retail copies are even slowly being returned as gamers discover more bugs and glitches through their time with the new release.
