Ubisoft Will Release a Colourblind mode for Rainbow Six Siege
Art director for Rainbow Six Siege, Alex Karpazis, mentioned during the Six Invitational 2020 that the developers are working on a colourblind mode for the game. Although this isn’t the beginning of Ubisoft’s attempts at making the Tom Clancy FPS more accessible for people and they had no official details at the Invitational, progress has been made on the colourblind mode for Rainbow Six Siege. Many gamers in the Siege Reddit community have implored Ubisoft developers to implement a colourblind mode and it should finally release for PS4, Xbox One and PC soon.
Colourblind Rainbow Six Siege fans may feel at a disadvantage because depending on your type of colourblindness, certain operator skins and reticles can disappear. Although this is a situational issue with the reticles, being unable to see certain skins leaves colourblind players struggling to keep up against certain opponents. Other players have reported difficulty seeing the thin red tripwires of claymores which are a quick kill strategic players leaving a trap. While we don’t expect any gamers are intentionally targeting colourblind Siege fans, we see how they could gain an advantage over them.
“We’re working on something right now,” said Alex Karpazis during the Six Invitational 2020. “We want it to be as accessible as possible to all of our players, so we’re making efforts on that.” FPS titles such Modern Warfare and Apex Legends implement colourblind modes that have been applauded by their communities but Ubisoft is struggling to keep up with EA and Activision Blizzard in this aspect. We applaud all developers to make their games more accessible for as many gamers as possible and a colourblind mode will expand the appeal of Siege.
