Borderlands 3 Sold 2 Million on the Epic Games Store
The website PlayTracker calculated the best selling games on the Epic Games Store by cross-referencing the nine most popular games on the Epic Store as they were revealed by Epic with data from the Xbox API. Apparently, Borderlands 3 sold nearly two million copies, with World War Z selling more than one million and Metro: Exodus more than 700,000. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford recently boasted about the concurrent players for Borderlands 3 on PC compared to previous Borderlands games on platform. Gearbox’s Borderlands 3 is available on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Google Stadia.
When the Epic Games Store listed the nine most popular games on the platform, they weren’t listed in order and didn’t include the obvious default: Fortnite. Thanks to PlayTracker, we have an idea of what order they placed in, though excluding The Division 2 and Dauntless, with the units sold being in brackets:
- Borderlands 3 (1,954,000)
- World War Z (1,022,000)
- Metro: Exodus (707,000)
- Satisfactory (644,000)
- Control (244,000)
- The Outer Worlds (154,000)
- Untitled Goose Game (151,000)
It’s likely that the two excluded titles didn’t sell as successfully as the seven games that PlayTracker listed, otherwise crunching those numbers would’ve been as important as the Borderlands 3 sales. Borderlands 3 is not only the best selling game on the Epic Games Store, it was also a temporary exclusive for the platform on PC. It also stands as the best selling Borderlands title so far so it will likely see a sequel one day, continuing the Borderlands series.
Upcoming exclusives releasing on the PC platform include Journey to the Savage Planet, Zombie Army 4: Dead War and Predator: Hunting Grounds which all come out in the next few months. Godfall and Magic: The Gathering, which don’t have a release date yet, but we hope to see them soon as well.
