3.3 Million Units of the Nintendo Switch Have Sold in France
According to French publication Lefigaro, the Nintendo Switch has sold 3.3 million units in France since it released in 2017. 2019 saw the Switch’s most sales in France, selling 1.25 millions units compared to 2018’s 1 million. According to Lefigaro’s research, approximately 11% of households in France apparently has access to a Nintendo Switch and an estimated 30% of these Switch gamers are women. The Nintendo Switch is currently on the road to selling 100 million units and catching up with the best selling consoles of all time between the original hybrid unit and the portable Lite version.
It’s likely that Nintendo consistently releasing quality games to the Switch family of consoles keeps gamers coming back to the publisher. Although the numbers include both the standard Switch and Switch Lite, it’s hard to say which households will have both but 11% is still a staggering statistic. Alongside the high hardware sales numbers, gamers in France purchased 650,000 copies of Pokémon Sword and Shield, 502,000 Mario Kart 8 Deluxe units and Luigi’s Mansion 3 sold 392,000. Despite the fact that Nintendo struggles to keep them in stock, the fitness-based Ring Fit sold 120,000 units since it released in October. Lefigaro really surprised us with their 11% of France households number but once that was established, the software sales numbers seem quite fitting.
France isn’t the only region that the Nintendo Switch is selling well as the hybrid console has remained consistently the best hardware seller for several months in a row. The release of Pokemon Sword and Shield drove sales of the platform in Japan and Europe while Black Friday in North America had units flying out doors in the arms of Holiday shoppers. The constantly booming sales show that Nintendo has successfully rebounded from the lackluster Wii U generation.
