Maybe We Get Remasters At Some Point?
With Spawn making an appearance in Mortal Kombat 11, maybe this means the character is due for a resurgence? At the very least, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane seems to think so. During a recent interview, McFarlane discussed the idea of Spawn games getting remastered, or even new ones being released.
According to McFarlane, a project like a remaster would simply be a distribution rights issue. “I don’t know if some of the contracts expired, so they would have to then come back to say, ‘Hey Todd, we have to redo it.”‘ This would apply to both the old games and the other old media.
If this Spawn appearance in Mortal Kombat 11 makes enough of a splash, maybe this gets the attention of someone like HBO? They were responsible for the old animated series after all. Keith David, who is voicing Spawn in Mortal Kombat, also did the voice in the animated series. Whether you’re a fan of the series or not, you have to admit that the 90’s are slowly re-appearing. Jumanji, Jurassic Park, Pokemon, Mortal Kombat, Aladdin, and even the Lion King. If there was ever a time for Spawn to make a comeback, this would be it.
