Warner Bros. today has just announced that “Mortal Kombat 11” has surpassed 12 million copies sold, since its release in March of 2019. The franchise also celebrates new records set as, it has sold 73 million copies on consoles to date, and an impressive 138 million downloads of the mobile game.
The numbers indicate that Mortal Kombat 11 alone accounts for 16% of the franchise’s total console sales, that’s incredibly impressive given the fact that the first game was released back in 1992. If that tells us anything, it’s that the Mortal Kombat franchise is very safe for the foreseeable future, and upcoming installments are almost guaranteed.
“When Mortal Kombat launched nearly 30 years ago, I never dreamed it would grow into the franchise it is today with more than 73 million games sold,” said Ed Boon, Creative Director at NetherRealm Studios and Co-Creator of Mortal Kombat. “We have some of the most passionate fans in the world and we appreciate the support they have shown us over the years.”
It’s worth mentioning that the MK11 game has received its final update just this month, as NetherRealm has recently announced its intention to stop supporting the game after 2 years of its release and switching focus to a new title. What that new title might be, is yet to be announced.
