A Massive Upgrade For Norland
Hooded Horse and Long Jaunt have unveiled a major update for their medieval kingdom simulation, Norland. Titled the “Big Summer Update,” this release delivers a significant overhaul to both the game’s visuals and core systems. The update came out just in time for the ongoing Steam Early Access sale, which runs until July 24 with a 35% discount.
The update brings a richer visual identity to Norland, adding variety to buildings and layering to cityscapes. As settlements grow, players will now see a clearer transition from humble thatched homes to structures inspired by the grandeur of the Hanseatic League. This visual evolution reflects the growing complexity of the realm players oversee.
Mechanically, the game has introduced deep changes to its economic and political systems. Lords now receive their own pocket money and act more independently. They can buy symbolic items like rings and manage some of their own needs, such as food and supplies, without constant player input. This autonomy reduces micromanagement and enhances the simulation’s realism.
One of the most notable additions is the long-anticipated political system. If a lord’s loyalty falters, they can now become political figures, using their wealth to gain influence and potentially challenge the throne. Other hostile lords may even fund these disloyal nobles with military support, introducing new layers of tension and strategy.
Available on PC via Steam Early Access for $29.99 / £24.99 / €29.99 / ¥3,980 with a 35% discount, Norland continues to grow into a deeper, more dynamic kingdom simulator, offering both new challenges and expanded storytelling opportunities for players.
