The Sims 5 Will Be the “Future” of the Franchise

The Sims 5 Is Still a Ways Off

The Sims 5 devs did not announce the game at today’s Behind the Sims Summit livestream event. However, they did give fans some information on what the next installment’s working title is. According to Electronic Arts, the next game is codenamed Project Rene. They also said that it will represent “the future of the Sims.”

Lyndsay Pearson, the VP of the series’ franchise creative told the gaming public that the next title is going to be the “next generation Sims game and creative platform.” They also showed fans a sneak peek of some of its editing tools and cross-platform play.

Taking a look at the preview, it would seem that the Sims 5 is going to bring back an expanded version of the Create-A-Style tool that the Sims 3 featured. Individual parts of a piece of furniture can have the material, pattern, custom colors, and modular pieces that are selected. Examples would be a variety of couch backings and bed head boards.

Furthermore, it also looks like the Sims 5 players will have the opportunity to rotate certain objects on the Z axis. Fans of the franchise are well aware that they could only do such thing by using a popular mod in the Sims 4.

Players will also have the chance to work together with their friends. They can do this by sharing designs more directly than they traditionally can with the current Sims gallery. This is a welcome change among the Sims community since this feature has been a relatively clunky way to trade their creations.

“Over the next couple of years we will continue sharing updates with all of you on Project Rene,” Pearson continued. “This is super early for us and we have never shared information about our games years before they launch to the world but we are so excited to take you on this journey with us.”
