Knights of the Old Republic Remake now “Delayed Indefinitely”

Knight of the Old Republic Remake faces Troubled Waters

Star Wars’ Galactic Republic has fallen before, and it looks like it may fall again. There’s trouble in the studio, and the highly anticipated remake for Knights of the Old Republic will be facing some serious delays. According to a Bloomberg report, the game’s creators at Aspyr Media recently finished a vertical-slice demo to show corporate higher-ups. The following week saw the game’s art and design directors fired from their jobs.

After a series of internal meetings, the company has mentioned that, according to Bloomberg, “the project is on pause and that the company will look for new contracts and development opportunities“. As it stands, Aspyr Media has been very quiet on this issue, with many employees not authorized to speak publicly about the situation.

As you can probably expect from a situation like this, gamers are frustrated at this news. Common sentiment on sites like the KotOR Subreddit don’t view too highly of Aspyr. After a poor reception of Aspyr Media’s other work, many fans were skeptical about their ability to remake Knights of the Old Republic. Common arguments center the company’s lack of experience in this field. Since Aspyr Media had only ever ported games to other consoles, their game development experience was limited. Fans have taken this perception and ran with it. In the process, largely discarding hope that the Knights of the Old Republic remake will reach their expectations.

What is your take on this? How does this news make you feel about the future, or lack thereof, for KotOR? If the game faces year-long delays, would you still pick it up? We’d love to hear from you in the comments down below!
