Gotham is Bigger Than Ever
WB Montreal’s upcoming Gotham Knights game will reportedly feature the biggest Gotham City map that has ever been created for a video game.
The new remarks came from Gotham Knights’ director Geoff Ellenor and Executive Producer Fleur Marty during an interview with Game Informer. “It’s pretty big,” said game director Geoff Ellenor. “I haven’t put one map over the other, but our Gotham is a big place.”
“For sure it’s the biggest version of Gotham that has been represented in video games. The most important thing for us is its density and verticality. It has a lot of layers. The Batcycle is the long-range mode of transportation,” added Executive Producer, Fleur Marty
This all but confirms that Gotham Knights will in fact feature a bigger map of Gotham City than the award-winning Arkham Knights game. Arkham Knights map of Gotham City was around five square kilometers and was made up of multiple districts as well as three islands. The map was notoriously large enough to merit the inclusion of the Batmobile and countless car chases for the players when roaming around the city.
From what we have seen of Gotham Knights gameplay so far, the game will not have a Batmobile for faster travel but it will have various other options. The Batcycle will be available for all four playable characters, and will even be customizable with various skins. Each character will also have their own distinct gliding mechanics, Nightwing has his own Flying Trapeze glider and Red Hood has his Mystical Leap superpower which he has gained after being resurrected by the League of Assassins using the infamous Lazarus pit.
Gotham Knights is now set to release on October 25, 2022, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
