A New Mafia Game Is Reportedly in Development Under New Leadership
A new Mafia game is reportedly in the works. However, 2K games has confirmed that the game’s development will be under new leadership. Devs revealed today that longtime President and Chief Creative Officer Haden Blackman has decided to leave Hangar 13.
“It is with mixed emotions that I share with you several leadership updates from Hangar 13,” devs stated. “Haden Blackman is stepping down as Studio Head of Hangar 13 and is leaving the company to pursue his passion at a new endeavor.”
Haden was the leader that led the teams in Czech, Novato, and Brighton. Through his stint at the studio, his team was able to “release multiple studio-defining Mafia games and collections.” “What Haden helped build will continue to carry forward and grow for years to come,” they continued. “We support all of our employees pursuing their passions and we wish nothing but the best for him in what is next.”
Nick Baynes is taking Blackman’s place. Baynes joined Hangar 13 back in 2018 and was leading the studio’s office in Brighton. “While change can be challenging, it can also breed new opportunities and success,” they added. “We are confident the studio is in great hands heading into the multiple projects currently underway and the team has 2K’s full support.”
2K Games has neither confirmed nor denied earlier reports about a new Mafia game being in development. Although the main source of the information is an unnamed insider who is “familiar with the plans,” fans think that a return to Mafia hugely makes sense. After all, the gaming community was not particularly impressed with Mafia 3.
The new Mafia game is reportedly going to be a prequel to the Mafia trilogy. Furthermore, devs may decide to ditch the Mafia 3 engine in favor of Unreal Engine 5.
