Off the Grid Is a ‘Next-Gen Battle Royale’ Game From District 9 Director

Off the Grid Players Will Have “Freedom to Control How the Story Unfolds”

Off the Grid is the brainchild for District 9 Director Neill Blomkamp. It is a project that he has been working on with Developer Gunzilla Games. According to the devs, the game is going to be a “next-generation battle royale with strong focus on narrative progression.”

Up to 150 players can fight across the same map in both the game’s PvP and PvE storyline missions. To make it more interesting, the map will change in realtime as certain events transpire.

Off the Grid is a third-person game and Blomkamp is the “chief visionary officer” among the team. “Players have the freedom to control how the hard-boiled story unfolds with each decision made directly impacting everyone’s gameplay,” devs said.

With Off the Grid, our ambition is not only to create the Battle Royale 2.0 by adding deep player progression,” Blomkamp said. “But to build an evolving world designed to take on a life of its own, changing in unexpected ways each time a player rejoins the game.”

“With an innovative approach to the Battle Royale core session flow and a deep narrative experience, we add purpose to each element of the game,” he added. “Allowing players to revisit the Off the Grid world repeatedly where there is always something new to find and explore and for us to expand upon.”

Players will be glad to know that they will also be given the opportunity to craft, customize, as well as trade items within the game. All of the game’s features sound pretty interesting. However, some gamers have commented that the trailer does not really do much to make them excited about it.

The trailer has a relatively dark tone to it. There is a military-looking character who walks up to city that is taking lots of fire from a distance. He then shows off his wrist sword. He also showed off some body mods that would most likely be familiar to Cyberpunk fans.
