Crysis 4’s Game Director is the Same Mind Behind Hitman 3

Crysis 4 May Not Be Headed for Crisis

Not too long ago, we saw a teaser for the upcoming Crysis 4 – the first installment to this series since 2012. Send your memory back to the stone age for a bit, if you will. Remember back when Crysis 2 was used as a benchmark test for new PCs? In the internet’s ever-flowing memory jar, those era might as well have been prehistoric. And for gaming newcomers, the Crysis series may as well be some ancient artifact dredged up from a long-buried vault. It’s a product they may need a confidence boost in: after all, will the game have aged well against the modern titans of the first-person-shooter genre?

Those concerns are more or less settled. Now, Mattias Engstr̦m Рthe game director for Hitman 3 Рhas been given the reigns of this project. His resume is long, but is it enough to take Crysis where it needs to go?

Engström’s experience with Hitman extends beyond Hitman 3, of course. If you appreciated the level design work of the series’ previous titles, he’s who you should thank. He’s also got experience working with Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry.

How do you feel about Engström’s leadership here? Do you think he has what it takes to make something like Crysis truly great? If you’ve played any of the games listed here, we’d love to hear from you in the comments down below!
