Square Enix Just Announced Valkyrie Elysium
Valkyrie Elysium is a new Norse Mythology game from Square Enix. As announced at today’s State of Play live stream event, the game is coming to PS4 and PS5 sometime this year.
Square Enix is returning to the world of Valkyrie Profile with an upcoming action RPG. According to Valkyrie Elysium’s official description, a young Valkyrie “is entrusted with the fate of the world by the All-Father, the highest of gods and ruler of all creation.”
Devs have promised that it will be “an epic story, beautiful environments, and new fast-paced combat that incorporates the Valkyrie series’ classic special attack and combo systems.”
“The Valkyrie series depicts the end of humanity and their encounters with the gods through a unique world inspired by Norse Mythology,” said Web Content Editor Duncan Heaney. “It is a beautiful game too with incredible art design that captures the spirit of the series in an exciting modern way.”
Heaney also confirmed to the gaming public that it will run in 4K and 60 fps on the PS5, “making for an adventure that looks and feels beautifully crisp.”
Soleil Ltd. is the team behind Valkyrie Elysium. They called on Composer Motoi Sakuraba to create music for the game. “RPGs are always better when they have a strong soundtrack,” Heaney added. “This one is going to be literally music to your ears.”
Valkyrie Elysium’s combat will feature finishing moves. There will also be new combo systems that are expected to bring the franchise up to date. At the moment, however, it remains unclear how it connects with the other titles in the franchise.
Devs launched the original Valkyrie Profile game for the very first PlayStation console in 1999. The most recent entry before Elysium was Valkryie Anatomia: The Origin. It came out for mobile gamers globally in 2019.
