The UK Isn’t Interested in Epic Games vs Apple

UK Blocks Epic Games vs Apple Lawsuit

The Competition Appeal Tribunal has officially blocked Epic Games‘ lawsuit against Apple from taking place in the UK. This decision was made due to the fact that the lawsuit is more pertinent to the United States despite the lawsuit making its way to other countries already. While this lawsuit against Apple won’t be able to take place in the UK, Epic Games’ lawsuit against Google hasn’t been blocked in the region. Epic Games’ Fortnite is available right now for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac, and Android.

Six months ago, Epic Games began a lawsuit against Apple after monopolistic practices that resulted in Fortnite being taken off Apple’s App Store. Epic Games sued Apple in the United States and filed an antitrust complaint in the UK but The Competition Appeal Tribunal in the UK has officially curbed that complaint. Though this complaint won’t move forward in the UK, Epic Games’ lawsuit with Google can move forward in the region.

The Competition Appeal Tribunal didn’t block Epic Games’ complaint against Google because Google differs in that Android devices are not as strictly regulated by the Play Store since apps can still be sideloaded. While monopolistic practices are a problem in every region, it makes sense that the UK isn’t interested in a lawsuit that belongs in the United States.
