Fortnite File Size on PC Reduced Drastically

Fortnite on PC Reduced From 100GB Down to Under 30GB

Fans of Epic Games’ free-to-play battle royale Fortnite on PC will be delighted to know that the game has been compressed to a far more minuscule size than it was previously. Fortnite was upwards of 100GB before a recent update that shrank the battle royale game to a measly 27GB. This frees up plenty of space for other games on the Epic Games Store, especially the freebies that continue to pour out. Fortnite is also available for free on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Android right now.

As the update note from Epic Games emphasized, PC Fortnite gamers will have to download a larger-than-normal patch before the overall file size reduction takes effect. This will make the update seem abnormally large, but the result will shrink the file size of the game far more. The compression to Fortnite’s file size on PC will leave no more than a third of its prior size. Now that Fortnite has been shrunk so drastically, we’re looking forward to seeing how much Activision Blizzard can compress Call of Duty Warzone which is now over 100GB’s of pure battle royale.

Alongside a spooky jack-o-lantern and a startling “boo!” in a recent Fortnite Status tweet, Epic Games said, “please note the patch size will be larger than normal on PC (approx. 27 GB). This is to make optimizations on PC resulting in a massively reduced Fortnite file size (over 60 GB smaller), smaller downloads for future patches, and improved loading performance.” Apex Legends still rings in at a smaller 25.82 GB’s on PC, but Fortnite fans will be delighted to know how compressed their battle royale has been in the recent update.
