Earth Defense Force: World Brothers Trailer Unveils Gameplay
The latest installment of the Earth Defense Force franchise is a spin-off, not a sequel. D3 Publisher unveiled Earth Defense Force: World Brothers recently with a gameplay reveal trailer which also teased the 2021 release of Earth Defense Force 6. The gameplay of World Brothers is similar to any other Earth Defense Force titles but the graphics resemble a Minecraft spin-off more than a spin-off of the Earth Defense Force franchise. Earth Defense Force: World Brothers will be coming to PS4 and Nintendo Switch later this year, but it doesn’t have a confirmed release date, while Earth Defense Force 6 is expected next year.
The voxel-style visuals are new to the Earth Defense Force series but after seeing the trailer, it looks very fitting for this new spin-off title. The block visuals combine with the classic Earth Defense Force gameplay to create a more playful experience for fans of the franchise. Fans of the series can unlock over 100 different characters with unique abilities in World Brothers, changing up the gameplay in new ways. This part of the game is best experienced with up to three other friends as some abilities will play off of each other similar to Overwatch, League of Legends, etc.
Earth Defense Force has been a staple in the gaming industry since 2003 when the first title released for the PS2. Since then, the series has gained a significant cult following with its arcady and hectic gameplay and unique enemies to combat. With Earth Defense Force: World Brothers, the series looks more arcady than ever, focusing more on gameplay than next-gen visuals. While fans of the franchise will have to wait until next year for the next numbered entry, Earth Defense Force: World Brothers seems like a great void filler between now and then.
