Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Brings Back Paper Chases

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Brings Back Ye Olde Side Activity

During a recent Ubisoft post-stream gameplay event for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, a classic Assassin’s Creed side activity was teased. The side activity is known as the paper chase and it hasn’t been in an AC game since Assassin’s Creed Rogue and Assassin’s Creed Black Flag before that. This activity makes gamers chase after pieces of paper that floats elegantly in various directions in an effort to dodge the Assassin. When gamers finally secure the piece of paper, it previously unlocked new sea shanties, but in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, these pages will unlock new tattoo designs. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is releasing for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5, PC and Google Stadia on November 17th.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Sea shanties have been an important feature in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed Rogue and gamers theorized that they’d be returning with Valhalla after seeing the returning paper chase. The paper chase was a clever way for gamers to get new tunes for the swashbuckling team to sing on the seven seas and Valhalla gameplay has unveiled that sailing will continue being an important aspect of the upcoming sequel as well. Although the paper chase has returned and naval combat is remaining a staple for the series, the paper chases of Valhalla will actually reward new tattoo designs to customize the protagonist.

While there’s currently no word on how many pages there are to collect, it’s likely that Ubisoft will include as many paper chases as they have in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed Rogue. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla apparently features flyting, a form of Viking rap battle, but these paper chases won’t make your rapping any better. We were hoping to unlock new sea shanties but it seems like the naval gameplay will be more similar to Origins and Odyssey than Black Flag and Rogue.
