Mega Evolution Coming to Pokemon Go

Galarian Farfetch’d and Mega Evolution Coming to Pokemon Go

During a recent Pokemon Presents, The Pokemon Company unveiled some new content coming soon to Pokemon Go. The first addition to the mobile AR game is the addition of Galarian Farfetch’d, which is available now to accompany the launch of Pokemon Sword and Shield’s Isle of Armor DLC. The second new feature, mega evolution, isn’t available yet but it will be coming to Pokemon Go soon. Pokemon Go is available on mobile devices for free, while the Isle of Armor was recently added to Pokemon Sword and Shield through the expansion pass.

Mega evolution is a highly anticipated feature that first found its way into the series with Pokemon X and Pokemon Y. These evolutions gave familiar Pokemon another form to transform into while in combat but The Pokemon Company didn’t confirm whether or not these new forms would just be for battle or if they’d appear in the wild as mega evolutions. Specifically, they stated that Mega-Evolved Pokemon “will appear in the real world in Pokemon Go” and that players can expect to see “a new take on Mega Evolution that takes advantage of Pokemon Go’s unique gameplay.” This makes us think that mega evolution Pokemon will appear at raid battles when they’re added to the game.

Pokemon Go fans outside of the Asia region may have had a hard time finding Farfetch’d as they explore the real world through the lens of Niantic’s mobile game. This is because Farfetch’d is an Asia-exclusive Pokemon who will only appear outside the region during certain events. Thankfully, Galarian Farfetch’d will be available to all Pokemon Go players right now, regardless of what region they’re in. Gamers can also unlock special avatar items as part of the Isle of Armor celebration, including a Farfetch’d hat and Isle of Armor-themed clothing.
