Steam Listing The Outer Wilds June Release
According to a Steam listing, The Outer Wilds will be releasing for the PC platform on June 18th. The game previously released exclusively for the Epic Games Store on PC but it appears that the timed exclusivity is over. Fans have been exploring the universe in The Outer Wilds not only through the Epic Games Store but also on PS4 and the Xbox One, where it’s also available as part of the Xbox Game Pass subscription service. There’s no word yet on whether or not the Steam version of The Outer Wilds will include any additional features or upgrades when it releases this June.
The Epic Games Store has been securing a plethora of quality timed exclusives on their platform and The Outer Wilds is one of many. This exclusivity has been controversial but has brought games such as Shenmue 3, Borderlands 3 and Rune II to the new PC platform. The release of The Outer Wilds is one of many games to transition from the Epic Games Store to Steam, giving both communities access to the unforgettable experience. While Gabe Newell has already admitted that the Epic Games Store is good for competition, there’s no doubt he would’ve liked to see The Outer Wilds on Steam a lot sooner than June. Borderlands 3 is one of the Epic Games exclusives that sold particularly well on the platform, setting a great example for future exclusives. According to Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney, the Epic Games Store will be continuing to acquire quality exclusives and release freebies for Epic Games fans throughout 2020, giving social distancing gamers plenty of content to play through this Spring.
