A Documentary about Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater Releasing Soon
Pretending I’m a Superman is a documentary about the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series and it will be premiering on February 29 at the Mammoth Film Festival. The film has been in production since 2016 from Neversoft producer Ralph D’Amato and Swedish filmmaker Ludvig Gur. The film was first announced back in August and it began an unsuccessful Indiegogo campaign in 2017. Despite the inability to gain traction on Indiegogo, it received independent financing to be produced. The last Tony Hawk Pro Skater game released on PS4 and Xbox One, but it was unable to capture the same magic of the original games in the series.
Pretending I’m Superman will feature interviews with Tony Hawk and his fellow skateboarding pioneers Chad Muska, Steve Caballero and Rodney Mullen. The title is inspired by Goldfinger’s “Superman,” which is a popular song from the original soundtrack of the first game and is easily located on Spotify. Tony Hawk himself recently took to his official Instagram account to plug the upcoming documentary, saying “‘Pretending I’m a Superman’ is a new documentary about the THPS series, made by a former producer of the game.”
The promotion of Pretending I’m Superman continued: “First screening will be at @mammothfilmfestival on Feb 29 and I’ll be there with Rodney Mullen and the filmmakers for a panel discussion afterwards. Join us there and/or at the afterparty with @thedownhilljam playing hits from THPS at @mammothrocknbowl.” Considering the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series revitalized the skateboarding community in the late 90’s and early 00’s, we’re looking forward to seeing how it’s represented on the big screen.
