I’m As Surprised As You Are
Everyone remembers Neopets, right? Those crazy creatures that swept the land way back in the early 2000’s? You raised them in a browser-based game featuring the most early aughts art that ever existed? Apparently they are both a) still very much a thing, and b) getting an animated television adaption sometime in the near future.
While I missed this particular boat, I was apparently the only one: the Neopets website still pulls in something like 350 million views every month. So it makes sense that JumpStart Games would want to capitalize on their enduring appeal with a TV show. Maybe pull in some of that sweet, sweet Netflix money. Maybe even drum up enough interest for new game content within the franchise!
Honestly, how would that even work? Would people flock to a Neopets 2? So much of that delicious nostalgia is tied to that uhhh, distinct art style. To that end, Beach House Pictures showed off a single teaser image in their announcement tweet which very much captures the aforementioned art style. I can feel 2002 sneaking up behind me just looking at that picture. There’s no release date set for the series, but you can bet we’ll have more info very soon.
